The Serpent You’ve Become

The fact is,
You broke a rule.
An unspoken rule,
Unwritten, but ever presence.
Like gravity,

You broke the rule,
And then blamed the rule,
Instead of yourself.
You tried to negate the consequences,
And I tired of your act.

You said is was us,
That we didn’t understand,
But it was you who didn’t.
Still, day after day, you would persist.
You believed it eventually, your morality.

But the truth is, your morality,
Is akin to that of Satan’s.
But even him, I believe, would
Never do what you did.
Not because of the sin, the crime you’ve committed.
But because even he must follow rules, or face the consequences.

You can try to dilute the frowns and tears,
With happy smiles and kind words,
But people lack the eyes to see the serpent,
That you have become.
