Up On The Hill

Up on the hill she stood majestic and sad. Searching the gentle blue sky for a truth long lost to time. A deep secret to a horrid past, or maybe it was the opposite, something known to the future. Whatever it was she was there, just there.

Had she not been so deep in thought, she would have felt his hand. The hand of a previous stranger, once the hand of a friend, now the hand of a lover. “I thought I might find you here.” She didn’t answer. “Come on, your ma’ is a lookin’ for you.” he said turning away. She stayed for a brief second, processing, like water reaching down to the the root tips on a thousand year old tree. She missed his heavy hand, how rough it was from the farm labor, how smooth and gentle it was. She turned too and began walking toward the back of the man. She hadn’t found what she was looking for but this did not cause alarm to her. She had reckoned that she may never find it, whatever it was.
